Waldorf-Montessori year calendar
Hi! Here I am with a new interesting post about the concepts year, season, month, week, and day. In this entry, I introduce you, the Waldorf-Montessori year calendar. It is a very visual and good way to understand the pass of a year in children of 4 and 5 years. It symbolize with the balls and the pieces of colors the cycle that it completed when a moth has passed and when the year has passed. It is a funny and active way to understand those new concepts for them.
It is based on Montessori and Waldorf methodologies, two alternative pedagogies that you can investigate in other blogs like:

How the Waldorf-Montessori year calendar works:
The months are symbolized by two elements: the central wood base with the twelve sections with its colors and figures associated to each moth. The figures can be made by the children an it can be part of his or her election.
The seasons are in the colors of each moth:
Winter: purples and blues.
Spring: green.
Summer: yellows and oranges.
Autumn: reds and browns.
The weeks are in the four holes of each piece of a moth. Children put a ball in each hole when a week has passed. This balls are bigger than the balls of the days.
For the days there are 35 pearls of seven different colors (a color for each week) and the big base with 31 holes to complete each moth. When the month starts, children take the balls depending on the number of days of the month and take one each day to put it on the hole. It is also possible to write the day number in order to follow the numbers.
